Thor: Love & Thunder Merch Reveals Gaudy, Golden New Look for the Marvel Hero

While Marvel fans patiently await the first trailer for the upcoming MCU sequel Thor: Love and Thunder, a somewhat random piece of merchandise for the movie may have just unveiled a radical new look for the God of Thunder. Hallmark (via Twitter user @common_writer) has revealed an image of a Christmas tree ornament which features Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian superhero sporting a new helmet and costume, a lot of which is draped in glorious gold.

Various bits of merch for Thor: Love and Thunder have revealed several different looks for the Marvel hero, suggesting that Thor could go through multiple costumes during the events of the highly anticipated sequel. Looking at the festive ornament (no doubt many cannot wait to have Thor adorn their Christmas tree this year), the gaudy golden helmet is by far the most surprising element of the outfit. While Hemsworth has briefly worn a helmet during his appearances in the MCU, he usually ditches it rather quickly, and this latest piece of headgear would undoubtedly be a sight to behold.

Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, and Vin Diesel, not much has yet been officially revealed about Thor: Love and Thunder despite the Marvel movie only being a few months away.

Of course, thanks to leaks, rumors, and everything in between, we do know that Jane Foster will return, with Thor: Love and Thunder expected to take inspiration from The Mighty Thor comic book run written by Jason Aaron with artwork from Russell Dauterman. The story sees Jane Foster suit up as the Asgardian hero while receiving treatment for breast cancer, with the power of Thor's hammer both restoring her strength and stopping her cancer treatment from working, putting her in an impossible situation.

Thor will no doubt need help from The Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder, which we also know will introduce Oscar winner and The Dark Knight star Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr the God Butcher. Born on a planet with no name, Gorr feels abandoned by the Gods, and bonds with a dark god's sword, transforming into an amorphous mass of living darkness. Gorr's hatred of the gods leads him on a revenge mission across time and space, and while we have yet to see exactly what the actor will look like as the character, some merchandise recently offered us some idea.

Thor: Love and Thunder is Due for Release in July 2022

Despite there being no trailer as of yet, Thor: Love and Thunder is not far away from release. The Marvel sequel is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 8, 2022, as part of Phase Four of the MCU. And, if the hype were not already palpable enough, director Taika Waititi has described Thor: Love and Thunder as "the craziest film I've ever done. If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn't make sense. It's almost like it shouldn't be made. If you walked into a room and said, 'I want this and this and this.' Who's in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you'd never work again. Maybe I won't after this."
