Inhaled Steroid Options for Treating Asthma - Verywell Health

Image
Inhaled corticosteroids, also called inhaled steroids, are potent medications used for long-term management of asthma. They're currently the preferred treatment for people with asthma who need more than a rescue inhaler can offer and they're considered more effective than other options. Inhaled steroids help prevent symptoms of asthma, including wheezing, shortness of breath, coughing, and tightness in the chest. These inhalers are not effective for treating an acute asthma attack. Instead, they are to be used daily—symptoms or not—to control asthma over time. When used as prescribed, inhaled steroids can: Reduce the frequency and severity of attacks (exacerbations) Decrease the need for rescue inhalers Improve lung function Decrease hyper-responsiveness of the airways Prevent asthma-related ER visits, hospitalizations, and death Improve quality of life Your doctor may recommend an inhaled steroid for your asthma if any of thes

Opinion: Book sales up; yet bookstores struggle. Shop local. - Chicago Tribune

When I was a kid, there were maybe three kinds of apples — red, yellow and green — and none of them tasted all that good unless you put them in a pie. Call those red and golden apples "delicious" all you want, but you weren't fooling anybody. We ate them anyway, because you gotta eat apples, but now we have Honeycrisp and Pink Lady and Ambrosia and Gala and another dozen varieties readily available to choose from. People realized that all these varieties that had been around forever, but had been sidelined because those red, yellow and green apples were easy to grow and ship — not because they actually tasted good.

Ranking the Oscar best picture nominees from the past 5 years - Manhattan Mercury

When the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers won titles last year, I didn't hear many people complaining, saying that their championships should come with an asterisk. Or maybe they did, but I was just too busy celebrating to hear their whining. (And, no, those illegal fireworks were most definitely not coming from my house. Somewhere on my street, maybe, but, I repeat, not my house.) Which is why I have little patience for people protesting that this year's Oscars are somehow tainted because theaters were mostly shut down and studios shuffled movies out of the season or, I don't know, they tried watching "Mank" three times but could never get through it. I understand that the Oscars are different this year. Watching the movies at home isn't as satisfying as sitting in a theater next to someone who keeps whispering confused questions, wondering if that's really Bill Nye the Science Guy playing Upton Sinclair in "Mank." (Yes it is

This cover image released by Doubleday shows "The Bedside Book of Birds: An Avian Miscellany," an illustrated compilation of folktales, poems, fiction and nonfiction by Graeme Gibson. By HILLEL ITALIE AP National Writer NEW YORK (AP) — When Margaret Atwood would receive invitations over the years to literary events around the world, literature wasn't the only factor shaping her response. She also kept in mind the interests of her longtime partner and fellow Canadian author Graeme Gibson. "Sometimes I would accept so we could go to the place and watch birds," she says. Gibson, who died in 2019 at age 85, was known well beyond the world of bo

Lil Nas X panic disrupts Minnesota mom's book launch - Hastings Tribune

Sheletta Brundidge was on national television Friday, talking about her new children's book. That same day, Lil Nas X, the singer she'd dedicated the book to, gave Satan a lap dance. By the end of the weekend, Lil Nas X was in a feud with the governor of South Dakota. He was selling 666 pairs of devil-themed sneakers, infused with human blood. He was offering pole dancing tips from his "Montero" video on Twitter. It was great for music sales. Less great for sales of an uplifting, wholesome children's storybook about how one of Lil Nas X's earlier hits helped a little boy with autism in Minnesota. "Daniel Finds His Voice" had surged to the top of the Amazon's bestseller list for children's books about disabilities after Brundidge spent part of the morning chatting about it with Gail King and the hosts of "CBS This Morning." "We were over here popping champagne and thanking Jesus and riding high," she s

Stocks climb on Wall Street; S&P 500 on pace for weekly gain - East Oregonian

Image
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. stocks burst to their best day in three weeks on Friday, helping Wall Street return to record heights and avoid what could have been a second straight weekly loss. The S&P 500 added 65.02 points, or 1.7%, to 3,974.54, with a quarter of that rise coming in the last five minutes of trading alone. Some of the biggest gains came from companies whose profits would jump the most if COVID-19 vaccinations and massive U.S. government spending programs juice the economy as much as economists expect. The index locked in a 1.7% gain for the week after losing 0.8% last week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 453.40 points, or 1.4%, to 33,072.88, and both it and the S&P 500 set all-time highs. The Nasdaq composite climbed 161.05, or 1.2%, to 13,138.72, though it remains 6.8% below its record set last month. Stock prices have been churning in recent weeks, and momentum has often shifted sharply, sometimes by the hour. Rising expectations
